Bangla is the official national language of Bangladesh. It serves as the common language of the nation where 98% of Bangladeshis are fluent in Standard Bangla as their native language. There are also some Indo-Aryan languages varieties, which are variously categorized either as Bangla language or part but closely allied languages. They can be considered of forming a dialect variety. The spoken languages of Bengali-Assamese belong to at least seven types as below:
- Standard Bangla: It is the national and official language, spoken nationwide across Bangladesh.
- Chittagonian Bangla: Commonly used in the city of Chittagong and the southeast part of the country. It is also considered as a dialect of Bangla, but both of languages are mutually unintelligible to each other.
- Sylheti Bangla: Commonly used in the city of Sylhet and the northeast part of the country, it is also considered as a dialect of Bangla, but both of languages are mutually unintelligible to each other.
- Rangpuri (rajbanshi): Commonly used in the city of Rangpur and the northeast part of the country, it is also considered as a dialect of bangla, but both of languages are mutually unintelligible to each other.
- Assamese: Basically used by minorities in the eastern side of Rangpur Division.
- Bishnupriya Manipuri: Basically used by minorities in the southern side of Sylhet Division.
- Chakma: Basically used by minorities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts area.
- Hajong: Basically used by minorities in the Sylhet Division.
- Rohingya: Basically used by minorities in the southern side of Chittagong Division and also in Arakan State in Burma and refugees from that region who currently staying in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Division.
- Tangchangya: Basically used in the Chittagong Hill Tracts area.
