History of Big Bash League
A design competition was held in 2011 to settle on the design of the Big Bash League trophy. The contest was limited to Australian designers, with the absolute design, elected by the public from a field of three, exposed on 13 December 2011.
It had been anticipated that the competition would go through expansion into other regional areas not supported by international cricket. The extension was intended to be implemented in 2012. The planned teams included: Newcastle, Geelong, Canberra, and Gold Coast.
There was also a New Zealand-based team was mentioned as an option that would be based at Christchurch or Auckland. Mark Waugh, former Australian cricketer commented on Fox Sports that an extension could reduce the player pool consequential in a sub-standard league.
The extension proposal was finally discarded because the proposed cities haven’t the proper facilities of cricket hosting.
In 2015, Melbourne Stars coach Stephen Fleming and former Black Caps captain recommended that expansion of the competition to include Black Cap teams and become a trans-Tasman contest. He said an extension into New Zealand-based teams would be extensively supported by locals.
Former Black Caps captain and Brisbane Heat coach Daniel Vettori also supported his recommendation. Stuart Coventry, Melbourne Renegades chief executive, also affirmed that he also wants that Cricket Australia to grant each club after a fifth home fixture on next season.
Coventry said the Big Bash League was ready to extend from 8 to 10 games and additional matches would further set up the franchises.
Anthony Everard, the head of the Big Bash League, flagged the objectives to approach extension through a soft launch in 2016. He affirmed the short to medium period goal was to schedule Big Bash games concerning existing franchises in local markets before addition of new BBL teams later on the 2017/18 season while the present broadcast deal expires.
He also stated about the regional markets of Canberra, Gold Coast and Geelong will possibly host games in the soft launch period.
Christmas Day Match
Cricket Australia exposed In December 2015, that they are looking into the opportunity to host a Christmas Day match in the upcoming years, probably the next season.
If the proposal is granted, it would be a first ever in the Australian history of sport as no professional games are played on Christmas Day in Australia. CA’s Executive General Manager (Operations) Mike McKenna said, “It is something we have just recently started discussing, the possibilities of that. We’re talking about playing a Christmas Eve match, we already play Boxing Day”.
Big Bash league 2016-2017 will be opening in December with franchisees jostling with each other to compete for the popular title. BBL is one of the most popular T20 cricket tournaments in the world consists of 8 franchise teams with national and international stars for the attraction of audiences.
The last season of the league was a amazing success as it brings a huge crowds to the stadium with allkinds of peoples with kids and family members who were enjoying the game.
The likes of Warner and Kevin Pietersen would be performing their skills in trashing the bowlers to all around the ground. It will be a magnificent tournament to watch so many super stars in action.
Melbourne stars and Melbourne Renegades would be locked in a wonderful contest with each other and endow with perfect amusement to the spectators. In terms of quality the Big Bash season 2016-17 would be much better than the previous season.
With the addition of Darren Sammy and Lendl Simmons in the league, you’ll never miss the big hitters. Audiences would like to watch the over boundaries as the best part of the league.
In last season of the Big Bash tournament, the final was held between Sydney thunder and Melbourne stars in which the Sydney thunder won in an impeccable style when they batted second and was crowned as the new champions.
It was a remarkable demonstration with the finals being a wonderful chase. Thunder win the Big Bash Final by 3 wickets.
The upcoming edition of the Big Bash league will be more exciting as all franchise based BBL teams are well balanced and organized with a combination of expert batsmen, bowlers and all-rounder. They would play using their own talent to stifle the opposition and will try to win matches.
However, the most entertaining batsman Chris Gayle will not play in the BBL|06 season but Kieron Pollard and many more hard-hitting batsmen would be gracing the field. Mustafizur Rahman, also known as the FIZZ, the magical bowler of Bangladesh national cricket team who has awarded the emerging player of the last IPL and performed impressively in T20 world championship, is most likely to be hired in the BBL.
