When it comes to optimizing your website, it’s so easy to jump online, read any of the thousands of free SEO tips available and give it a good, solid shot on your own. After all, the tips explain what you need to do and how to do it, so it can’t be that difficult, right? Unfortunately, what you might not realize is that some of those tips might be doing your SEO efforts more harm than good.

You see, there are two primary types of SEO: white hat and black hat. White hat tactics are all above board and aimed at appeasing the search engines. Black hat methods are aimed at getting fast results, but they also carry a huge risk that you could get your site penalized with the search engines for unethical practices.

Even if you go searching for DIY SEO tips that are specifically labeled ‘white hat’, how can you be sure those tactics are still valid and will give you the results you want?

Of course, doing your own SEO might save you a few dollars. If your business is on a tight budget, this might seem like an excellent way to keep your costs down and still get your website ranked in those search results.However, there are some things you might not be taking into consideration.When you hire a pro to do your SEO for you, it’s their job to work on the best possible practices to help your site achieve the rank you’re aiming at. Plenty of webmasters and business owners argue that the cost of SEO isn’t necessary if they have someone to get working on those DIY search engine tactics instead.What you might not realize is that the cost of paying a pro to do your SEO could mean a far greater return than just search engine rankings. It could also mean greatly improved traffic numbers, higher sales and increased profits.

Rather than trying to cut costs, doesn’t it make sense to pay a pro to optimize your website properly? Increasing online sales can mean better cash flow for any business. But increasing the amount of money your business makes from online sales can help to reduce costs in other areas of your business too.
