After 60 years of its invention it modified itself from being a regular useable vehicle to a luxury transport, offering the best possible comfortable journey. In 1865 George Pullman invented The Pioneer, the first railway carriage with a facility of dining and sleeping area. From this historical invention till today many luxury trains have been introduced to enhance our traveling experience. Based on the model of Palace on Wheels, a special luxury train was introduced in the year 2004. Deccan Odyssey is a joint venture of the Maharashtra Tourism Development and the Ministry of Railways. Ex-Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated this luxury train on 17th January 2004.Taj Group of Hotels which is world famous for its hospitality and service has taken the responsibility for the same of Deccan Odyssey.
To boost tourism in Maharashtra this express was launched. The name was derived from the greater Deccan Plateau of India. All natural landscape of Ratnagiri, the wildlife sanctuary of Pench National Park, UNESCO World Heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora and many beautiful sites of Maharashtra can be explored in its journey.
Deccan Odyssey train is popular not only for its amazing itineraries but also for its excellent décor and modern facilities. There are a total of 12 coaches which comprises of 40 deluxe and 4 presidential suits. Amenities of today’s world like attached bathroom with running hot and cold water, DVD player, air conditioning room, Wi-Fi, library, mini gym etc are available in this train. Its two multi cuisine restaurant, Peshwa I and Peshwa II, serves traditional Maharashtrian, continental and oriental cuisines. A well-stocked bar, Mumbai Hi, is also there to offer some of the best varieties of wine. Traditionally attired staffs will always be there to make your journey smooth and easy.
