The Melbourne Renegades is a franchise-based Australian professional T20 cricket team that participates in Australia’s domestic T20 cricket tournament, the Big Bash League.
The team is a Victoria based franchise and represents Melbourne in Big Bash League. Etihad Stadium is the home ground of Strikers. The Renegades cricket uniform is red color.
The Melbourne Renegades’s first coach was Victorian Bushrangers and Simon Helmot was their inaugural captain. Aaron Finch is now the present captain of the team and Andrew McDonald is the present coach.
Aaron Finch was awarded the Player of the series of BBL|02 after scoring 332 runs at an average of 66.40.

History of Melbourne Renegades
In the Big Bash League 2011-12, the Melbourne Renegades’ inaugural captain was Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald and coached by then Victorian Bushrangers coach, Simon Helmot. In their opening season, the Renegade signed as local state players like Aaron Finch, Brad Hodge, Glenn Maxwell and Dirk Nannes, with Pakistani oversees players Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq.
The Renegades struggled hard in their opening season, but only winning of two games against the Sydney Sixers and the Sydney Thunder. Aaron Finch scored highest total of 259 runs and Shahid Afridi took 10 wickets.
In the Big Bash League 2012–13, the BBL|02 saw the Renegades revealed several star players including Andrew McDonald, the previous season’s captain.
But the recruitment of dependable players such as Ben Rohrer, Peter Nevill and the cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan, saw this season being the most successful season till now, ending on top of the point table, only lost match against the Perth Scorchers in the regular season.
Aaron Finch scored the first century on behalf of the Renegades player scoring 111 from just 65 balls against the Stars. However, the Renegades were knocked out by the Brisbane Heat in the semifinal by 15 runs.
In the Big Bash League 2013–14, even with maintaining the majority of their previous season’s squad and also recruited the Australian bowlers Peter Siddle and James Pattinson, the team struggled hard in the BBL|03, but winning only 3 games, and ended at 6th and missing the finals.
In the Big Bash League 2014–15, in the same way to the previous season, they headed into the BBL|04 with buoyancy after signing with Callum Ferguson and Matthew Wade in the pre-season, but again failed to qualify for the finals, ended at 6th. The poor performance of the coach Simon Helmot from the previous season resulted in being sacked.
In the Big Bash League 2015–16, the Renegades recruited David Saker as the new team coach for the BBL|05. The Renegades also signed with some experienced players like Chris Gayle, Xavier Doherty and Cameron White to strengthen their squad.
The Renegades has an averaged 13,323 fans to their home matches for the opening BBL season and 13,406 supporters on their second season. The average audience increased by a huge margin in the BBL|03 when they marked an average crowd of 21,929. The fourth season of the Big Bash League had even better average attendance of 22,324 fans for their home matches.
Their highest home audience was to the Melbourne Derby in the BBL|03, attracting 42,837 fans. The largest non-home attendance in Big Bash League history happened in the BBL 2015-2016 season against the Stars, attracting 80,883 present. Their biggest non-Derby attendance was 26,787, which happened in their fifth season against the Scorchers.
