On April 2, 1925, the flag was adopted, and the name of the state was added in May 1941.

Former Oklahoma flag, used from 1988 to 2006.

In 1924, the Daughters of the American Revolution launched a design contest for a new State Flag of Oklahoma. Louise Fluke was chosen as the winner in 1925. The primary difference was that the word “Oklahoma” was not printed on the Flag of Oklahoma. This was later added in 1941.

The design from 1941 is the one that is still used today. However, some changes have been made throughout the years to correct the official Oklahoma State Flag. Many unauthorized State Flag of Oklahoma were found to have errors, including the wrong colors, stylized features, and crosses that were shaped incorrectly.

It was in 2006 when a bill outlining the design of the Flag of Oklahoma colors and shapes was signed into law.
