The national flag of USA consists of thirteen equivalent horizontal stripes of red at the top and bottom alternating with white, a blue rectangle at the top left symbolizes as the “union” bearing fifty small white stars, five-pointed stars are in nine offset horizontal rows, where rows of six stars at the top and bottom alternate with rows of five stars.

These 50 stars on the flag stand for the fifty states of the United States and the thirteen stripes stand for the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain and turned into the first states in the USA.

Nicknames for the flag include Old Glory, The Stars and Stripes and The Star-Spangled Banner.
