Denver Is The Capital City of Colorado. The State Capital Of Colorado is Located in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Denver Is Also The Most Populous Municipality of the U.S. State of Colorado. The City Denver downtown district is immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River.

Some gold miners moved from Kansas to the area near South Platte River and established settlements on banks of the river. These settlements lasted only a few months, then the gold miners moved to a neighboring city.
