English Is The Official State Language of Iowa. Iowa Adopted English as the official state language in 2002. The Reason Behind this is To encourage every citizen of the state to become more proficient in the English language. English is the largest language by a number of speakers. English is also the third most-spoken native language in the world, after Standard Chinese and Spanish. English is a West Germanic language and It was first spoken in early medieval England.

Iowa State Language English is named after the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes that migrated to the area of Great Britain that later took their name, like England. The English language is closely related to Frisian and Low Saxon, and State Language of Iowa English vocabulary has been significantly influenced by other Germanic languages, particularly Norse, and to a greater extent by Latin and French. 4. Among the powers reserved to each state is the power to establish the English language as the official language of the state, and otherwise to promote the English language within the state, subject to the prohibitions enumerated in the Constitution of the United States and in-laws of the state.

5. In order to encourage every citizen of this state to become more proficient in the English language, thereby facilitating participation in the economic, political, and cultural activities of this state and of the United States, the English language is hereby declared to be the official language of the state of Iowa.
