State Tree Of Arizona

Blue Palo Verde Is The State Tree Of Arizona. Blue Palo Verde was Officially Accepted As The Arizona State Tree in 1954 (legislation specified genera Cercidium, but the genus Cercidium has been updated to Parkinsonia).”Palo verde” is Spanish for “green stick.”  Two Species of State Tree Of Arizona Blue Palo Verde trees are native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona; Parkinsonia florida (commonly called blue Palo Verde) and Parkinsonia Microphylla (called yellow Palo Verde).

Blooming in the spring (beginning in late March and continuing until May), State Tree Of Arizona Palo Verde are beautiful trees that add vibrant color to the Arizona desert.  While most plants photosynthesize (produce food) with green pigments in their leaves, about three-quarters of the Palo Verde tree’s food is metabolized through its green bark. This is an important design for a tree with small, short-lived leaves.

In 1954, the State of Arizona named the Palo Verde as its State Tree Of Arizona Palo Verde. Because the legislature didn’t distinguish between the two native tree species, both the Foothills Palo Verde and Blue Palo Verde share the honor.

Foothills paloverde grows through central and southwestern Arizona and extends south into Sonora, Mexico, and Baja, California.
