what is best Dishwasher

einfon is an independent, unbiased source of consumer information about dishwashers. We created this guide for the sole purpose of allowing consumers to make informed decisions about which dishwasher to buy. We developed TheDishwasherGuide because we found that the large number of dishwasher models and product lines from manufacturers make head to head comparisons difficult.

Our site is different because we’re not manufacturers or retailers trying to sell you a particular dishwasher. Instead we maintain a comprehensive listing of current dishwasher manufacturers, models and product lines, including a description of key features, ratings, and pricing. We also provide specific model recommendations based on a combination of consumer and expert reviews and search popularity.

Please note that we are an independent website and do not represent any particular make or model. We are not paid by manufacturers to produce any of the content on TheDishwasherGuide.

einfon  is a work in progress. We regularly update our dishwasher content on current models and manufacturers as it becomes available. Check back often for the latest information.

Top Dishwashers

To come up with our list of Best Value dishwashers, we looked across all Bosch, GE and Whirlpool models, examining the dishwasher features such as the number and types of dishwasher cycles and options, place setting capacity and extra features such as the availability of child locks and detergent dispensers. Then we analyzed the energy efficiency (EnergyStar kWh/year) and noise output (measured in decibels) for each model.

Finally, we looked at consumer and expert reviews for each model and its associated product family. Using this information, we grouped the models into 3 separate categories: entry level, best value and premium dishwashers. The Top Best Value dishwashers are shown here:

The company’s top of the line Integra 800 (model SHV68E13UC) is so quiet at 40 decibels that a status light is included to shine a beam on the floor so that you can tell the dishwasher is still running. With a 180 kwh/year Energy Star rating, this model uses less energy than most models in its class.

In addition, popular dishwasher feature such as child safety locks, automatic leak detection, spotless drying, delay start time, a wide range of cycles and adjustable racks with fold down tines are included with the Integra 800 and other high end models.

With a stainless steel tub and other quality materials designed to last for years, you can expect to pay over $2,000 for a top of the line 24″ Bosch under counter dishwasher.

If you are willing to compromise a bit on the noise level, energy consumption or feature set, you can find less expensive Bosch models starting as low as $550. For additional information you can read our article on how Bosch dishwasher features stack up by model and product line.

Top GE Dishwashers

If you just want the answer, we’ve compiled a list of top GE Dishwashers based on consumer popularity and reviews:

This list of the best GE 24″ built-in dishwashers is listed in order of consumer popularity by product family, which we describe in more detail below. For each GE dishwasher shown above, there are multiple different model variations, depending on the finish and specific features (such as number of options or number of cycles) you want.

Click on the model link to see more detailed product specifications and to read reviews. Or you can see how the GE Profile, GE and GE Cafe dishwasher lines differ. GE Profile dishwasher models score highest among GE dishwasher product lines in our unbiased rankings.

What You Should Know About GE Dishwashers

GE manufactures more dishwasher models than any other manufacturer. GE dishwasher models are divided among 4 product families: GE Profile, GE, GE Cafe and Monogram. Because TheDishwasherGuide is focused on models you can buy off the shelf without customization, we haven’t included information on the GE Monogram line.

You should expect to pay between $500 and $1200, depending upon the specific features you want. At the higher end of the price range you will get stainless steel construction, at least 5 cycles (including sanitize and glassware cycles) and the GE SmartDispense technology, which automatically controls the amount of detergent used for each load.

At the lower end of the price range, you will get GE’s PermaTuf (polycarbonate) finish with a smaller number of cycles and options. Every GE dishwasher in our survey comes with the PureClean or BrillantClean cleaning system. PureClean, which is a bit newer, uses less water and energy per load, but is not as quiet as the BrillantClean models.

In terms of energy efficiency, water usage and noise, GE ranks above average, compared to other manufacturers. Finally, all the newer GE models no longer have a central wash tower as many older models did. The 2009 JD Powers home appliance survey rate GE Profile dishwashers as average in overall satisfaction.

GE dishwasher models were rated slightly below average in overall satisfaction, but better than average in terms of price. GE also manufactures portable, under sink and narrower 18″ dishwashers, which we will profile in a separate article.
